Fontana Lake is in extreme SouthWestern North Carolina. It borders the Great Smoky Mountains National Park
to the North and Nantahala National Wilderness to the South. From Winston Salem, take I-40 West thru Asheville
Exit at 74 West (Clyde, Waynesville). Follow 74 thru Bryson City, then take right on route 28 to Fontana. Cable
Cove campground and boat access will be to the right, about 20 miles down 28. The Marina is another 4 miles.
Total distance is about 230 miles and about 3 hrs 50 minutes without stops.
